What can you do?

Do you receive undesired calls (stalking, threatening calls etc.)? Then file a complaint with the police. Did you file a complaint with the police, and do you have questions about the investigation? Then ask them. BASE is not allowed to provide any information directly.

Here is some advice to help you recognize suspicious calls and avoid traps:

  • The best way to protect yourself against these calls remains: do not pick up or return the call!
  • Do not return calls to unknown foreign numbers. Numbers starting with +870, +871, +872, +873, +874, +881, +882 connect you to a satellite and are subject to higher charges.

Good to know: Do you not want to receive commercial calls ? Then you can register to be included in the Don't-call-me-anymore list.

  • Find a name or number

If the caller is listed in the Witte Gids (telephone directory), you can request the name or number by calling 1207.

  • Ombudsman's Office for Telecommunication

Do you know the number, but you aren't exactly sure who is behind the undesired calls? Then you can submit a complaint to the Ombudsman's Office for Telecommunication. They will then look up the caller's details for you. It is a good idea if you then also contact the police.

Note: Were you called from an international number or from a pre-paid card number? Then they can't trace the details for you.
