How do you prepare for the indoor installation?

Great, you are almost ready to install BASE Internet in your home. You just need to do some preparations yourself.

Useful information

In this article we look at various cables and devices such as the network switch, modem, Wi-Fi booster, UTP wall socket, etc. If you are not sure about these, have a look at this article for a handy overview!

Where will your network switch and modem go?

To connect your home with the drop cable outside you need a network switch and modem; this is your basic configuration. Who installs what depends on the type of installation:

  • Do you have an appointment with a technician? Then he or she will replace or install the modem and possible network switch if you do not yet have them.
  • Have you opted for Self Install? Then you already have a network switch. All you have to do now is connect the modem.

We install the basic configuration…

  • where the drop cable enters your home.
  • never in a crawl space or damp room (e.g. bathroom) for safety reasons.

For the installation, choose a free space...

  • on the wall of 40 x 50 c

How will you connect your devices to the modem?

Before the installation you should considerhow you can connect your devices such as computer, tablet, laptop, TV, etc. tothe modem. Below we summarise 4 possible solutions, but you may not need all of them

With Wi-Fi

You can connect most of your devices, such as computer, laptop, tablet, TV, etc., to the modem using Wi-Fi. You will not need an internet cable for this.

With Wi-Fi boosters

Are your devices too far away to get a good Wi-Fi connection with the modem? Then expand your Wi-Fi network using Wi-Fi boosters.

With an internet cable

Do you want a stronger signal for some of your devices? Then connect your device directly to the modem using an internet cable

Tip: Do you have a BASE TV box? Then we recommend connecting this to the modem using the supplied internet cable.  That way, you can be sure you get the best quality!

With embedded internet cables

Some houses have internet cables embedded within the walls. You then connect the modem via an internet cable to a UTP wall socket in one room. And then you connect your device using a cable to a UTP wall socket in the other room. You lay the cable yourself or have an electrician do this for you.
